Review of Bren Woodard’s Hatred with a Passion

Title ~ Hatred with a Passion ~
by Robin Renee Ray
Publisher ~ Injected Ink Productions
Published ~ March 2012

My Rating 5 Stars or Wooden Stakes

Bren Woodard’s not exactly the girl-next-door, but she could be if people would quit pissing her off. Putting up a front with her tough demeanor and vulgar talk, all Bren really wants to be is left alone and lead a quiet adult life. Raised by an abusive Father and acquiescent Mother, she learned a long time ago to take care of herself, and she proved just that by killing her Father when she was only seventeen.

Look she had too....and anyone else who now steps in her wake and causes her problems.

The same yard stick her Father beat her with is the same stick he supposedly fell on while in a drunken stupor. No one questioned Bren and no one ever mentioned the stick had been sharpened on one end. Seems the whole town was glad to be rid of him too.

Wood....sharpened wood objects become an obsession of Bren’s; hence the nickname Woody.

Steve, a co-worker, is the only person Bren befriends if you could call it a friendship. However, for Steve, he’ll take whatever he can get because he’s been in love with Bren since she first walked into the factory as a new employee. Not good for Steve. His feelings to protect her drag him into her vigilante lifestyle.

As I was reading, I compared Bren with my favorite character Hannibal Lector who also rid society of rude, destructive people. Don’t cringe....there is no cannibalism....but there is blood and gore, and plenty of action to keep you turning the pages. Oh yea, and sex.....Robin Renee Ray included really good sex. If you like dark, horrific short stories, Hatred with a Passion is a must read. My only grip is the book ended; I wanted more.

I’m excited to announce Robin is writing the second installment in the Bren Woodard Series, tentative title: Weapons between the Sheets.
Because the horror has just begun.

Review of Murder On Vinson Massif

Title ~ Murder On Vinson Massif, A Summit Murder Mystery ~
by Charles G. Irion & Ronald J. Watkins
Publisher ~ CGI Irion Books LLC
Published ~ April 2012

My rating 5 Stars

I’ve never climbed a mountain, nor do I intend to. I’m in awe of the people who seek this type of thrill at altitudes of 13,000 feet or higher above sea level. To reach the top of a summit and live to tell about it must be the ultimate high for these climbers.

However, there are climbers who have perished before reaching their goal. This is a very dangerous sport. Weather conditions, altitude sickness and dehydration are nemeses to even the most experienced mountaineers. Plus the temperatures on some of these summits can hit 50-below-zero or lower. In Murder On Vinson Massif, not only do the climbers have to worry about these issues, they have to watch their back because someone among the group is a murderer. No one can be trusted.

Vinson Massif is the highest mountain in Antarctica. You’ll learn about new high tech equipment the government wants tested on this climb. I found this fascinating because the authors described the scenes so vividly I could actually image the base camps and the ETVs (Extreme Temperature Vehicles) idling in the extremely cold weather.

Murder On Vinson Massif is truly suspenseful. Charles Irion and Ron Watkins keep you guessing who the culprit is until the end. Just when you think you know who is doing the killing, nope, they are murdered. There is drama and all the characters have flaws, secrets and a reason to kill.

A real page turner. I kept this book by my bed side and read each night before going to sleep. I had to make myself stop reading; it’s that good. I’ve started reading Murder on Everest; in chapter seven already. I look forward to reading all the Summit Murder Mystery series.
